**The work schedule for this position is Monday - Friday from 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm.**

 

DEFINITION AND DUTIES:

Under general supervision, performs manual and custodial work.  Generally assigned to clean and upkeep a specific County building.

Knowledge of:

  • Materials, methods, and equipment used in custodial work such as vacuums and buffers

  • Safety regulations and standards relating to custodial maintenance

  • English language to include basic grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation

Ability to:

  • Perform a variety of routine manual tasks in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of buildings and equipment

  • Represent Johnson County and perform duties in a professional, responsible and trustworthy manner

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and members of the public

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of information as appropriate

  • Be detailed-oriented while performing duties

  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks

  • Understand, follow and interpret basic instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, and schedule form

  • Have clarity of speech, hearing, and writing which permits effective communication

  • Handle light levels of stress and meet deadlines appropriate to the position

  • Perform light to moderately heavy manual cleaning tasks

  • Occasionally perform moderately heavy manual labor for extended periods

  • Stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, bend, twist, reach, and crawl

  • Work while standing for extended periods

  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds

  • Use a computer for the purposes of e-mail and internet

  • Have sufficient vision which permits light production, review of materials in hardcopy form, and adequate performance of duties in a safe and appropriate manner

  • Have sufficient manual dexterity to perform routine cleaning duties and make handwritten notations

  • Have sufficient personal mobility to occasionally complete field work at various county facilities

  • Occasionally work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Manage own time and work independently to complete daily duties

  • Work flexible schedule and occasional overtime as needed

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Eighth grade or equivalent. 6 months of custodial/maintenance experience OR any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES: to be performed satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors in hallways, lobbies, offices, etc.
  • Wash sinks, mirrors, shelves, windows, walls, and blinds.

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and replace supplies.

  • Dust and wash furniture and fixtures.

  • Help move furniture and other heavy objects. Prepare rooms for meetings as requested.

  • Vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets.

  • Empty wastebaskets / ashtrays.

  • Carry out and properly dispose of garbage / trash. 

  • Collect, sort, and dispose of recyclable materials in appropriate location.

  • Perform routine maintenance on cleaning equipment.

  • Notify supervisor of inventory and maintenance needs.

  • Occasionally perform routine grounds work, including picking up trash and shoveling snow.

  • Secure and open facilities as needed.

  • Perform duties at other County buildings as needed.

  • Participate in training and work related meetings as requested.

  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreement and safety practices.

  • Attend work regularly at the designated place and time.
