Cedar Valley Montessori School (CVMS) is seeking a visionary, mission-driven Head of School to lead its long-standing Montessori community. Since 1971, CVMS has been a pillar of early childhood education in Cedar Rapids, serving children ages two through six through authentic Montessori learning. The school is known for individualized instruction, respect for each child’s development, and a tight-knit community of families and educators who value excellence.

The Opportunity

The Head of School is the steward of CVMS’s vision and Montessori identity. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this leader translates mission into action by providing strategic direction, operational leadership, and a strong, values-driven culture for students, staff, and families.

This is a highly visible role — both inside the classroom and throughout the community — focused on strengthening enrollment, supporting staff growth, and ensuring the long-term success of the school.

What You’ll Lead

Leadership & Strategy

• Lead strategic planning and school operations aligned with Montessori principles
• Foster a cohesive, mission-driven school culture
• Balance stakeholder needs while advancing organizational priorities

Enrollment & Community Engagement

• Drive enrollment growth through outreach, marketing, and community partnerships
• Represent CVMS in the broader Cedar Rapids community
• Build strong relationships with families and stakeholders

Staff Leadership

• Manage and develop staff to support high performance and retention
• Provide coaching aligned with Montessori teaching practices
• Bring emotional intelligence and firm, fair leadership

Financial & Operational Oversight

• Collaborate with the Board on budgeting and financial planning
• Ensure compliance with licensing and accreditation standards
• Support fundraising and development initiatives

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role requires someone who can balance heart and structure — passionate about Montessori education while skilled in leadership and organizational management.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required
• 10+ years of professional experience in education, nonprofit, or mission-driven leadership
• Proven leadership managing people and complex stakeholder relationships
• Genuine commitment to Montessori philosophy (experience preferred; willingness to learn required)
