Orientation Peer Leader (Part Time)

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, provide support to the college-wide new student orientation and registration program. Responsibilities include assisting with various office functions associated with orientation, facilitating the successful transition of new students to Kirkwood, preparing students for their academic experience, by promoting student involvement and engagement, and providing information about student services and academic resources.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Participate in required training sessions prior to orientation sessions.
- Assist in implementation of all orientation sessions for first year students.
- Communicate with new students and their parents/guests during orientation to promote connection to resources, faculty, staff and other students.
- Lead groups of students and families around campus to various sessions. Comfortability with public speaking to groups of 30-50.
- Participate in various preparations and follow up for all orientation sessions.
- Staff various aspects of orientation programs, including check-in, presentations, registration, staff meetings and other duties as needed.
- Share information with students and parents/guests regarding college policies, procedures, course registration, academics expectations, campus life and services.
- Perform other related work duties as assigned.

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Positive attitude regarding the college and motivation to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Strong communication and group facilitation skills.
- Must be able to work consistent schedule during the summer May-August with limited evening and weekend hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
- Be a full-time or part-time degree-seeking student at Kirkwood Community College who is in good standing academically and with the Dean of Students office.
- Plans to stay at Kirkwood for at least one full academic year/two semesters.
- Public presentation skills or experience.
- Recommended by Kirkwood faculty or staff member.
