GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Dean of Health, supported by two associate deans and an operations manager, provides strategic leadership, vision and administrative oversight for health-related credit programs at Kirkwood Community College. This role ensures program quality, student success, faculty development, accreditation compliance, and community partnerships aligned with the college’s mission and workforce needs. The dean collaborates with faculty, staff, industry partners, and other stakeholders to develop and sustain high-quality programs that prepare students for healthcare careers.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for health related programs, to include Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Medical Assisting, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapy Assistant, Electroneurodiagnostic Technology, Paramedic, Radiology Technologist, Respiratory Therapist, Surgical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Nursing. 
  • Stay informed of current healthcare trends and emergent practices. 
  • Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate faculty and staff within health programs. 
  • Provide professional development opportunities and mentorship for faculty. 
  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of all reports and studies that are required from the department, ensuring compliance with accreditation, state and federal requirements.
  • Assist in providing for proper facilities, equipment and materials to meet the needs of the instructional programs.
  • Direct the preparation of the annual budget for the department and supervise its implementation.
  • Oversee clinical site agreements, equipment and simulation center operations. 
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance program offerings and student success.
  • Collaborate with other academic departments to support divisional goals. 
  • Collaborate with student support services to address barriers to student success. 
  • Promote equity and inclusiveness in program offerings and student engagement.  
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

  • Possess a working knowledge of educational trends in the field that enable leading the department to meet the merging educational needs.

  • Establish and maintain good team working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and general public.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a field related to one or more of the discipline areas of responsibility or in administration
  • Current licensure in one of the health programs 
  • Three years of leadership experience
  • Teaching experience 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Community college experience
  • College teaching experience 
  • Accreditation experience 
  • Previous experience in curriculum development
