Schedule:- Mandatory Orientation occurs at the beginning of the semester. Hours/Days vary based on student placement needs or course assignment.
Kirkwood Community College seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a RT Adjunct Instructor. This candidate will potentially teach in all modalities in the program. However, the program is looking primarily for adjunct faculty to teach as a clinical faculty instructor. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge base in their discipline and teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Primary duties will include instructing students in courses, collaborating with lead course faculty, communicating with department staff, students, and other faculty.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Duties
- Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and assessment of respiratory therapy students during clinical placements, including orientation to clinical policies, procedures, and standards of patient care.
- Facilitate student development by delivering constructive feedback, implementing remediation strategies when needed, and ensuring a safe, ethical, and supportive learning environment.
- Demonstrate and promote evidence-based practices in respiratory therapy, serving as a role model for clinical reasoning, professional behavior, and interprofessional collaboration.
- Collaborate with academic faculty to align clinical experiences with curriculum objectives, monitor student competency completion, and maintain accurate documentation of progress and attendance.
- Participate in program, department, and institutional initiatives, including attending meetings, faculty orientation, and ongoing professional development.
Lecture & Lab Duties
- Deliver classroom and lab instruction using evidence-based content and interactive methods that support student learning, clinical competence, and critical thinking.
- Develop and assess course materials, simulations, and evaluations in alignment with curriculum goals, accreditation standards, and institutional policies.
- Monitor and support student performance, providing timely feedback, maintaining academic records, and promoting professionalism and ethical conduct.
- Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership on curriculum development, program planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in program, department, and institutional initiatives, including attending meetings, faculty orientation, and ongoing professional development.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:- Effectively instruct and communicate material for the course.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:
Position involves working in a classroom setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
- Individuals are required to hold a current respiratory therapist license in Iowa and be credentialed as an RRT.
- 3 full years of recent and relevant work experience as a respiratory therapist.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
- Experience teaching at the college level.
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college.
- Demonstrated success in working collaboratively.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
