GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:The Program Director of the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program will report directly to the Dean of Allied Health programs. They are assigned full time as the administrator of the MLT program. The program director is responsible for the management and administration of the MLT program, including planning, evaluation, budgeting, selection of faculty and staff, maintenance of accreditation, and commitment to strategies for professional development. Kirkwood’s administration will provide the necessary support in time and resources for management of the unique needs of the occupational therapy assistant program director.
This position will balance the faculty role with the leadership role, and assist in providing the MLT program a clear vision for the future that supports the college learner strategic priorities. The role requires the ability to analyze data and to use the data to support the decision making process. As a leader, this person must see the program as a whole related to all the diverse areas of the curriculum andknowthestrengthsandtalentsofthepersonnelwithintheprogramsoastosupportaninnovative climate and continuous professional growth with a clear direction. As a leader, MLT program director will demonstrate a strong level of engagement with the allied health faculty and staff and serve as the advocate for the program in areas outside the department, both within the college and through out the community.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be responsible for the organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality
improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing other program faculty/staff, and
general effectiveness of the program.Direct the preparation of the annual budget for the MLT program and work with the Dean of the
allied health programs to prepare and supervise its implementation.Engage in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every three
years.Be responsible for maintaining NAACLS accreditation of the program. Have regular and consistent contact with students, faculty, and program personnel. Provide leadership in the development and implementation of the program goals and priorities and
monitor their achievement.Direct program planning and implementation. Recommend staff for appointment, assignment, professional development and other personnel
actions for the MLT program.Assist the Allied Health office staff in the development of the course offering
schedules.Contribute to the professional development of program and college goals. Manage the program and student assessment and outcomes. Participate in college-wide committees. Assist in providing for proper facilities, equipment and materials to meet the needs of the MLT
program.Must have faculty appointment and teach in an assigned area of Medical Lab Technology. Assess student performance for program success and future employment. -
Perform other related work duties as assigned.

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- An earned master’s or doctoral degree.
- An ASCP BOC or ASCPi BOC generalist certification as a medical laboratory scientist.
- Three years of teaching experience.
- Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.
- Experience as a program director for an accredited MLT program
- Demonstrated scholarly research and professional presentations
- Experience in grant writing and implementation
- Experience with accreditation process
