The Finance and Business Information Services team is seeking a Data Scientist. The purpose of this position is to lead data and reporting solution design and implementation in the Finance and Business Information Services team.

Leadership responsibility for this position consists of provides technical leadership to the data and reporting team, including mentoring team members, advising on data analytics solutions, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making, staff hiring, motivation, and training and communication and promotion of data science best practices with customers, OneIT teams, senior management, and other teams across university boundaries.

This position is eligible for remote work and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the and .

Duties to include:

  • Leverage data to drive strategic decision-making and innovation within the organization.
  • Developing and implementing data analytics strategies, overseeing data analysis and reporting projects, and providing leadership in data solution development.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify business needs, design data solutions, and ensure the accuracy and reliability of data.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, evaluates new tools and technologies, and promotes continuous improvement in data analytics processes.
  • Strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to communicate complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.

Salary: $110,000 – commensurate

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and related experience in business processes and technical services may also serve to meet this minimum requirement.
  • Experience (typically 5 years) in a data science and/or report development role.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, with management, technical and non-technical staff. Experience in conducting presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong understanding of Data Governance, and Data Security, Privacy, and Ethics.
  • Experience with database management systems (DBMS) such as SQL Server and Oracle DBMS.
  • Hands-on experience with reporting tools, such as SQL Server Reporting Services, and data visualization tools, such as Power BI.
  • Experience with data warehousing and ETL/ELT processes, such as SSIS, and building and maintaining data pipelines aggregating data from disparate data sources.
  • Hands-on experience with fetching data from RESTful APIs for reporting applications.
  • Proficiency in processing/cleaning data using programming languages such as Python, and R.
  • Knowledge of big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka to analyze large data sets.
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis, data mining, predictive modeling, and machine learning algorithms.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and processes.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with data and reporting solutions in a higher educational setting
  • Experience with business and financial applications.
  • Experience with leadership of technical teams.
  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP) techniques.
  • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Familiarity with generative AI, such as Large Language Models (LLMs).
  • Industry certifications, such as Microsoft Certified Azure Data Scientist Associate and Microsoft Certified Power BI Data Analyst Associate.
