Friends of Historic Preservation

Friends of Historic Preservation (FHP) is a local nonprofit that promotes the preservation of historic buildings and neighborhoods in Iowa City and Johnson County. FHP also deconstructs older buildings that are slated for demolition and sells architectural materials at its Salvage Barn.

The Administrator is responsible for day-to-day operations and management of FHP working closely with the Board of Directors to further FHP's mission. The Administrator typically works 15 to 20 hours per week.

Duties include:

  • Attend Board of Directors’ monthly meetings. Assist in scheduling meetings, developing agendas, and preparing monthly reports.
  • Assists Board committees with assignments and work plans to complete Board objectives.
  • Reports directly to the Board President or designee.
  • Manages day-to-day finances. Works with FHP Treasurer and accountant on annual budget and other tasks.
  • Coordinates updating and maintaining websites, email, and social media accounts.
  • Coordinates quarterly newsletter. Responds to email, social media messages, and postal mail.
  • Promotes membership and maintains membership records.
  • Solicits new memberships and renewals.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with nonprofits, preservation, construction, planning, or fundraising is desired, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but other levels of education, work experience, and training will be considered.
  • Experience with Microsoft and Google apps. Design experience is useful.
